Netanyahu notes his country-- alone in Middle East-- protects Christians

December 18, 2015

Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reminded a Christian audience that Israel is the only country in the Middle East where Christians are protected by the government.

Speaking to the Israeli Christian Recruitment Forum-- a group that encourages Christians to enlist in the country's armed forces-- Netanyahu said that "now more than ever it is clear which is the only state in the Middle East that protects minorities, where Christians live in peace and their community is growing."

The Fides news service notes that the Catholic bishops of the Holy Land have criticized the Israeli government for actively recruiting Christian Arabs to the military, saying that the targeted recruitment drive is "clearly an attempt to drive a wedge between Christians and Muslims in Israel."

"(C)learly an attempt to drive a wedge between Christians and Muslims in Israel"? Why not admit that Netanyahu is right? Oh, wait, we wouldn't want to say anything that actually supports Israel, would we?

Actually Christians have been protected by Bashar al Assad in Syria. Prior to the civil war there, you didn't see Christians fleeing from Syria because of government persecution.
