Holy Land’s Christian leaders urge: maintain Temple Mount status quo
September 22, 2015
Amid increasing Palestinian concerns that Israel plans to build a temple or synagogue at the Temple Mount, the Holy Land’s Christian leaders called for the maintenance of the status quo.
The Temple Mount, also known as Haram al-Sharif, is Islam’s third-holiest site.
“We condemn all threats of change to historical (status quo) situation in the al-Aqsa Mosque and its courtyard, all buildings, and in the city of Jerusalem,” the heads of Jerusalem’s churches said in a statement.
“Any threat to its continuity and integrity could easily lead to unpredictable consequences which would be most unwelcome in the present delicate political climate,” they added.
