The Archbishop of Canterbury has voiced his misgivings about the decision by the Episcopal Church in the US to solemnize same-sex marriages.
Dr. Justin Welby, the worldwide leader of the Anglican communion, said that the American decision “will cause distress for some and have ramifications for the Anglican Communion as a whole, as well as for its ecumenical and interfaith relations.”
While recognizing the “prerogative of the Episcopal Church to address issues appropriate to its own context,” the archbishop said he viewed the decision with “deep concern.”

Ecumenical and interfaith dialogue looses its raison d'etre when one side keeps moving fast away from the Christian Faith.

Let us hope that many Episcopalians join the African affiliate sooner than later. I can imagine that many High Anglicans are disturbed over their American counterparts decision. May God help Archbishop Welby as he governs the church there.

How, exactly, does voicing concern over the Episcopalian decision being an impediment to ecumenical dialogue represent a "wrong reason?" Perhaps it is not the reason some might want specifically to hear, but that does not make it a "wrong" reason. Let's be happy that Dr. Welby has taken issue with the Episcopalians' decision rather than critiquing the manner in which he took concern.

Please help me understand how our brothers in Christ could reach such a decision. I a cannot align it with my understanding of scripture.

Right for the wrong reason.
