New Michigan law protects religious foster-care, adoption agencies
June 16, 2015
Gov. Rick Snyder of Michigan has signed legislation permitting faith-based adoption agencies to operate in accordance with their religious mission.
The legislation prevents “faith-based agencies from having policies forced on them that violate their religious beliefs, which have resulted in agencies closing in Massachusetts, Illinois, California, and Washington, D.C.,” the governor said in a statement.
The Michigan Catholic Conference welcomed the legislation, while the advocacy groups that support same-sex marriage decried it.
