Action urged on pro-life legislation

April 30, 2015

The National Committee for a Human Life Amendment (NCHLA), which works closely with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on legislative matters, is calling upon pro-life citizens to contact their congressional representatives and urge them to overturn the District of Columbia’s “Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act” (RHNDA) and “Human Rights Amendment Act” (HRAA).

“RHNDA forbids all employers to ‘discriminate’ in hiring, firing, promotion and job benefits because an employee or his or her family member is making ‘reproductive health decisions’ on matters such as sterilization and abortion,” the NCHLA explains, noting that pro-life organizations might be compelled to hire persons who favor abortion.

Congress has the authority to overturn the District’s local laws, and the House is expected to vote on overturning RHNDA by May 1. According to a Bloomberg report, it is not likely that the Senate will vote on the bill, and President Barack Obama is almost certain to veto it.
