Czech president visits Pontiff

April 24, 2015

Pope Francis met on April 24 with President Milos Zeman of the Czech Republic, on the 25th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic ties between that country and the Holy See.

A brief Vatican statement released after the meeting indicated that the Pontiff spoke with the Czech leader about Church-state cooperation in education, health care, and social welfare. The two also spoke about international affairs, with a particular emphasis on the plight of Christians and other religious minorities in the Middle East.
