Priest: Boko Haram negotiators may be swindlers

October 29, 2014

A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, said that negotiations to free hundreds of girls kidnapped by the Islamic terrorist organization Boko Haram may be taking place with “scammers who try to get money from the government.”

“Boko Haram is divided into several groups, and those who say they negotiate in its name [are] not the main component,” Father Patrick Tor Alumuku told the Fides news agency.

“The only statements come from the government, while Boko Haram is silent,” he added, stating that the Nigerian government “is under pressure to find the kidnapped girls and continues to make announcements of ceasefires and releases of hostages but all this does not correspond to reality.”
