Program announced for November papal trip to Strasbourg

October 07, 2014

The Holy See Press Office has announced the program for Pope Francis’s visit to Strasbourg, France, on November 25.

Following a two-hour flight from Rome, the Pope will first deliver an address to the European Parliament, whose 751 members are elected by the people of the nations of the European Union.

The Pontiff will then address the Council of Europe, a body distinct from the European Union but also headquartered in Strasbourg. The Council of Europe includes bodies such as the European Court of Human Rights that enforce European treaties.

Following his two addresses, the Pope will return to Rome on the same day.
