Aid Africa’s refugees, prevent conflicts, says Holy See diplomat

October 01, 2014

A leading Vatican diplomat called upon the international community to aid Africa’s refugees and to work to prevent conflicts on the continent.

Speaking at a September 30 meeting of the UN refugee agency, Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Holy See’s representative at UN offices in Geneva, said that “a renewed engagement in a policy of prevention is now urgent.”

“The efforts of the international community to prevent conflicts and bad governance which stifle development are necessary in order to reduce the number of persons forcibly displaced,” he added.
