Catholic school removes portrait of pro-abortion gubernatorial candidate in Rhode Island

September 30, 2014

A Catholic school in Rhode Island has removed a portrait of a graduate who is now a candidate for governor, running on a "reproductive freedom" platform.

Gina Raimondo was once the valedictorian of her class at LaSalle Academy. As the state treasurer, she was honored as one of the school's distinguished graduates, with her photo displayed prominently on a wall with other famous alumni. But after she spoke in favor of abortion on demand during a campaign appearance last week, school officials removed the portrait.

Archbishop Malloy High School in Queens, NY has Gov Andrew Cuomo's photo on the Honor Wall. Worse yet, after his unabashed criticism of Catholic Moral teachings, the school REFUSES to remove him from the wall. Perhaps the LaSalle administrators could call Malloy and explain what it means to be a Catholic school.

It sounds like LaSalle Academy may actually be a Catholic school, not just in name, but also in action.

I can think of some other famous Catholic school graduates in history whose alma mater removed their portraits for similar reasons. Some day this school may breathe easier knowing there will be no photos of their school with that anomalous portrait hanging embarrassingly in the background. Bravo for them.
