Nigerian bishop: Boko Haram now controls 25 towns
September 19, 2014
Comparing the brutality of Boko Haram to that of the Islamic State, a Nigerian bishop said that Boko Haram has taken control of 25 towns in northeastern Nigeria.
“We are faced with a huge humanitarian crisis; people are sleeping on the streets in Maiduguri,” said Bishop Oliver Dashe Doeme, the city’s bishop, in reference to the refugees who have fled the advance of the Islamist jihadist group.
“The brutality and callousness with which people are killed can only be compared to that of the ISIS in Iraq and Syria,” he added. “"Right now, thousands are living in caves on the mountains, some in the forest … Thousands have managed to escape into Cameroon and are living under very difficult conditions of lack of food, shelter, and medication.”
