L’Osservatore Romano has compared the deaths of immigrants drowned in the Mediterranean sea to the carnage of war.
The Vatican newspaper responded forcefully to news of “the latest massacre”--- in which 18 drowning victims were recovered, and about 200 remain missing, after a boat carrying undocumented immigrants sank off the island of Lampedusa.
“The number of deaths in the Mediterranean by now are more than those of a war,” L’Osservatore Romano said.
