Bishop William Lori of Bridgeport yesterday urged Connecticut Catholics to oppose legislation that would place parish finances and outreach under the control of elected lay boards. “This irrational, unlawful, and bigoted bill jeopardizes the religious liberty of our Church,” said Bishop Lori. Under the proposed legislation, “matters pertaining exclusively to religious tenets and practices” would be left to the bishop and pastor.
