Bishop Martino renews critique of Misericordia's Diversity Institute

March 04, 2009

Bishop Joseph Martino of Scranton, Pennyslvania, who earlier this month criticized the "Diversity Institute" at Misericordia University, has renewed that criticism with a public statement insisting that a Catholic university should "transmit Catholic teaching to its students in ways that are not ambiguous or confusing." The bishop said that the Diversity Institute, by hosting lecturers who reject Church teachings on life issues, "gives the impression that these viewpoints are acceptable, or that all morality is relative." Misericordia University administrators indicated that they hope to meet with Bishop Martino to discuss the bishop's concerns.
