Precious manuscript, stolen from Turin archdiocese, recovered in Florida

January 28, 2014

Law-enforcement officials in Florida have found a precious manuscript that was stolen in Italy 25 years ago, and will restore it to the Archdiocese of Turin.

The manuscript, a richly illustrated page from a 15th-century prayer book describing the martyrdom of St. Lawrence, was stolen in 1990. After passing through several owners, it was purchased by a couple in Florida, who voluntarily turned it over to police. The Florida couple will not be charged.

The first sentence is misleading. Law enforcement did nothing, except perhaps answer the phone.
