China tweaks 1-child policy

November 22, 2013

The Communist Party of China’s Central Committee has “given the green light to couples wanting to have two children if one of them is an only child,” Xinhua, the nation’s official news agency, reported.

Xinhua described the decision both as “no big deal” and as “a significant change of the current one-child policy.”

Reggie Littlejohn, president of Women’s Rights without Frontiers, cautioned in a National Review Online article that “China has not promised to end forced abortion, forced sterilization, or forced contraception.”
