South African priest brutally assaulted

November 06, 2013

A priest in a small suburb of Pretoria, South Africa, was “severely beaten with a hand drill, strangled, locked in a room, and left for dead” by a thief, the Pretoria News reported.

Father Craigh Laubscher, 45, was attacked on the grounds of his parish.

“I cannot believe that someone could do something so cruel to a priest,” said Archbishop William Slattery of Pretoria. “It is just so shocking.”

The thief “had approached Father Craigh last week,” the archbishop added. “He asked for some help, and Father gave him some food.”
