September 19, 2013
A mob attacked and looted an Anglican girls’ school near Calcutta on September 12 after a student died, the Fides news agency reported. Following the incident, police arrested the school’s headmistress, leading Christian schools throughout the state of West Bengal to close on September 19 in protest.
Elsewhere, in the state of Goa, a Catholic parish’s cemetery was vandalized. Police attributed the overturning of 92 crosses to a “mentally challenged woman,” the Navhind Times reported.
