Florida trial for priests accused of stealing $8.5M
January 21, 2009
The trial of Father John Skehan, 81, and Father Francis Guinan, 66, may begin today. A Diocese of Palm Beach audit found they may have stolen over $8 million in parish funds over 20 years; prosecutors have charged them with stealing $800,000 over a six-year period. “These guys lived the life they told everyone else not to live and they lived it on everyone else's dime,” said a Delray Beach police spokesman. “And one of the seven deadly sins is greed.”
