Roman Lutheran leader pays tribute to Pope

February 22, 2013

Commenting on three ecumenical gestures, the pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran community of Rome has paid tribute to Pope Benedict XVI.

One gesture “which greatly moved me,” recalls Jens-Martin Kruse, took place in December 2012. “At the place where the Pope's seat is normally located, there was a cross. Just like the brethren of Taizé, the Pope too knelt before this cross, remaining there for several minutes in prayer and meditation. An important gesture of the conception that the Pope has of himself and a clear indication of the fundamental message of the faith: there is only one Christ, whom we behold together.”
