Conclusion of jubilee year in honor of Pauline Jaricot

January 08, 2013

Pope Benedict XVI has named Cardinal Paul Poupard, president emeritus of the Pontifical Council for Culture, as his special envoy to the closing of the jubilee year in honor of Venerable Pauline-Marie Jaricot (1799-1862). The ceremonies, culminating in a Mass in Lyon, France, take place on January 9.

The French laywoman took a vow of perpetual virginity at the age of 17, founded the Society for the Propagation of Faith in 1822 to aid the missions, and founded the Association of the Living Rosary in 1826.

The 2012-13 jubilee commemorates the 150th anniversary of Jaricot’s death and the 50th anniversary of Blessed John XXIII’s decree declaring Jaricot venerable.
