Trial date set for Bishop Finn

Bishop Robert Finn and the Diocese of Kansas City - St. Joseph will go on trial on September 24 on charges of failing to report suspected child sexual abuse committed by Father Shawn Ratigan, who faces federal child pornography charges.

The bishop, who has pleaded not guilty, faces a maximum fine of $1,000 and a maximum sentence of one year in prison on the misdemeanor charge.

    The "facts" of this case are so vague that I am convinced that this is another Kansas ambush of a pro-life leader. That said, I don't think the bishops actions meet the criteria for good governance in the Church, even if they were not illegal in Kansas.

    A $1,000 fine? What a joke,even if the Bishop himself paid it. A year in jail is hardly enough for him. These guys have got to be made responsible for their gross handling of pedophile priests.
