Australia’s bishops welcome court ruling on asylum seekers
September 02, 2011
The Australian Catholic Bishops Conference has welcomed a high court decision that forbids the nation’s government from returning two asylum seekers to Malaysia.
“Now is the time for all people of good will to work together to find a better way of dealing with asylum seekers,” said Bishop Frank Hanna, the bishops’ representative for migrants and refugees. “Malaysia is host to over 94,000 refugees; Australia must continue to take part in this responsibility, which is a global phenomenon.”
