Between Man and Woman: Questions and Answers About Marriage and Same-Sex Unions

by United States Conference of Catholic Bishops

Description

This statement on marriage and same-sex unions was approved by the entire body of Catholic bishops at their annual meeting in November 2003. Drafted by the Committee for Marriage and Family chaired by Bishop Kevin Boland of Savannah, the document consists of a brief introduction, answers to eight pertinent questions about marriage and same-sex unions, and suggestions for further reading. In an address introducing the text at the meeting, Bishop Boland noted that "this statement has one main purpose: namely, to express the Catholic Church's core belief and teaching about marriage, and then apply it to the current debate about extending marriage to include the legal recognition of same-sex unions."
