TRINITARIANS

The Order of the Most Holy Trinity, founded in 1198 at Cerfroid, France, by St. John of Matha and St. Félix of Valois, with the approval of Pope Innocent III. their rule was based on an austere interpretation of the Rule of St. Augustine, and their purpose was especially to liberate the numerous Christian captives held by the Moslems. In 1596 a Spanish reform created the Discalced Trinitarians, who alone survive. Their present apostolate is to assist the faithful who are in special danger of losing their faith. They are engaged in missionary labors and promote devotion to the Holy Trinity.
