THEISM
Belief in a personal and provident God. It may, however, take on different forms, notably monotheism (one God), polytheism (several gods), or henotheism (one chief god among several). Theism is commonly distinguished from atheism, which denies the existence of a personal, transcendent deity. (Etym. Greek theos, god.)
