SANCE BELL

The Sanctus bell, originally a bell hung in a small cupola over a sanctuary, rung by means of a rope that hung down near the server's place. The bell was rung three times at the Sanctus, once at the Hanc Igitur just before the Consecration, three times each at the elevation of the Host and chalice, three times at the Domine non sum dignus before the priest's communion, and in some places three times also before the communion of the people, when the same words were said.
