PASSOS

A Portuguese name to designate pious Lenten exercises held at Goa and other Catholic communities in India. Originally the flagellants were active in these Friday processions, singing litanies and scourging themselves in sight of the Cross. Today the same customs are regularly held but without the scourging and other objectionable features. A presentation of a scene from the Passion is added weekly to the sermon and followed by a procession.
