NUMBERS

The fourth book of the Bible, so named because the opening chapters deal with the census numbering of the people. It may be divided into four unequal parts: the Hebrews leave Mount Sinai (1-10); from Sinai to Cades (10, 11-12), Cades (13-20:21); from Cades to Plains of Moab (20:22-21:35); at the Plains of Moab (22:1-36:13). The last chapter, 36, treats of the Levitical cities and the cities of refuge.
