MODERN WORLD
A term used in many senses but especially, among Form Critics of the Gospels, to identify today's society in contrast with that of the first century, or the time of Christ. The modern world is said to be educated; it is intelligent and therefore skeptical, and demands scientific proof for everything it even provisionally accepts as true.
