MENOLOGY

A collection of lengthy lives of the saints in the Greek Church, arranged according to months and days; also an ecclesiastical calendar containing tables of lessons from Scriptures according to the feasts of the saints. In the East the Menology is a book for private use according to months and days, of biographies of renowned holy persons who are not canonized saints. Menologies are also compiled for individual monasteries or entire religious communities, briefly recording the lives and achievements of their outstanding deceased members. (Etym. Greek menos, month + logos, discourse, knowledge.)
