LITTLE FLOWER SHRINE
Place of pilgrimage to St. Thérèse Martin, daughter of Carmel. Lisieux, a French town of some twenty-five thousand near Le Havre, is the pilgrimage center of millions. All other factors of the town are secondary to the cathedral and the Carmel, made famous by a young nun who with her "little way" captivated minds and hearts for God. She was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1925 and declared by him to be patroness of the missions partnered with St. Francis Xavier. The magnificent cathedral was consecrated by Pope Pius XII in 1937 when he was nuncio to France. It is Romano Byzantine in style.
