INFAMY

The stigma that is attached to a person and that debars him or her from certain rights or privileges until the source of the infamy is removed. It may be an external crime that was committed by the person and that attaches to his or her character (infamia facti), or it may be the result of an ecclesiastical penalty imposed by law or authority (infamia juris).
