GENESIS

The first book of the Bible, containing an account of the origin of the world, of the human race, and of the Chosen People. These three origins are covered as follows: the creation of the world and the early history of humanity, including the Fall, the promise of a Redeemer, and the Deluge (1-11); the early history of the Jews, including Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph (12-50). The prophecy of Jacob (49) contains the celebrated prediction in favor of the tribe of Judah, of which will be born the Messiah.
