EL SHADDAI

Another name for God. "God said to Moses, 'I am Yahweh. To Abraham and Isaac and Jacob I appeared as El Shaddai. I did not make myself known to them by my name Yahweh!'" (Exodus 6:3). This is corroborated by reference to texts in Genesis where God used this name in speaking to Abraham and Jacob (Genesis 17:1; 35:11).
