1. the part of a church reserved for choristers; 2. an organized body of singers who perform or lead the musical part of a church service; 3. in monasteries where the Divine Office is chanted the stalls accommodating the monks or nuns and separated from the sanctuary by carved low partitions; 4. one of the nine orders of angels.
