AX

The emblem of St. Thomas of Canterbury (1118-70), who was martyred by an ax, as were also St. Justin (c. 100-65) and St. Barnabas. St. Boniface (675-755) is shown with the ax recalling his role in the destruction of the great oak dedicated to the pagan Thor, which contributed to the Christianizing of Germany.
