Were You There When They Accessorized My Lord?

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Mar 29, 2005

No reason why clerics' personalities should not be reflected in their robes.

A priest in Wiltshire has used her experience in the fashion industry to brighten up her robes. The priest, the Revd Veronica James, a design graduate and former buyer for a fashion chain, has designed all her own vestments, including four special stoles.

Mrs James, NS Assistant Curate of Ashton Keynes, Leigh and Minety, in the diocese of Bristol, said this week that there was no reason why clerics' personalities should not be reflected in their robes. For Lent, Mrs James has been wearing a purple stole sewn with 30 silver sequins, to represent Judas's pieces of silver.

The Rev. James's plum-tone mascara coordinates well with violet chasubles of Quadragesima. (Isn't that how Alphonsus Liguori got started?)
