After reading today's Gospel, especially Mark 16:18, you are probably wondering how many Church leaders are certified herpetologists. Offhand I can name one: Sister Fran Donnelly, BVM, the director of parish life for the Archdiocese of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Sister Donnelly has come in for some criticism recently, because she's been instrumental in promoting a sex-education program for archdiocesan schools. But she insists it's not a sex-ed program; it's just a program that educates kids about sex. Or something. Anyway just try it; you'll like it.
And about now I can't help remembering that in the Scriptures, the record of women who deal with snakes is distinctly mixed...
