and even a blind squirrel sometimes finds an ACORN

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Sep 25, 2009

Have no fear! This year, the money you toss into the pre-Thanksgiving collection won't be going to ACORN. Nor will it be going to two California groups that favored same-sex marriage. (One of the groups also favored the legalization of prostitution: a policy option that ACORN staff members might be endorsing soon, in light of recent revelations.)

True, the CCHD did fund these groups last year. But no more

The Catholic Campaign for Human Development has canceled grants to two organizations after learning about their involvement in activities contrary to church teaching and is studying the actions of two other groups.

Isn't that reassuring?

Or maybe you're cynical, and you'd like even more reassurance. Maybe, instead of learning each year that two or three of the most egregious violators from among last year's recipients have been dropped off the CCHD grant list, you'd like to feel confident that the people giving out the funds have changed their approach.

Good luck with that.
