There has been a great deal of speculation on the meaning of a letter Pope Emeritus Benedict wrote about the theological work of Pope Francis: Pope-emeritus Benedict sees continuity with teaching of Pope Francis.
Here is the full text of the letter from the Pope-emeritus, which could be read as a defense of Benedict’s care for the Church, an acknowledgement that Pope Francis has been well-trained theologically, or an exercise in damning with very faint praise.
My advice: Don’t worry about it.
Perhaps more interesting is the report from an Indian cardinal that the reform of the Curia is nearly complete. I say that in light of Phil Lawler’s assessment: Vatican reforms are stalled. The question is: why?
