eNewsletter Subject: Terrorism of Islamic State and Planned Parenthood

The latest bad news is the murder of Fr. Jacques Hamel at Mass in France by members of the Islamic State: French church attacked during Mass, priest murdered.

Pope Francis expressed his horror, and Phil Lawler has one request of all of us: Please don't call it 'senseless' violence.

Fortunately, there is also good news in the suit against the video journalists who exposed Planned Parenthood's sale of fetal tissues. See Court dismisses charges against investigator who exposed Planned Parenthood fetal-tissue sales.

All of these things call to mind the Christian requirement to show mercy, and raise questions about how mercy works. I've been concerned that, in our culture, Christians can be confused into offering a counterfeit of mercy instead of the real thing.
