Let me try to weave our new materials around the very serious theme identified in the title.

One can hardly fail to meditate on repentance today. As Jennifer Gregory Miller points out, it is our First Celebration of the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene.

In fact, we have been called to repentance throughout this Jubilee Year of Mercy, for repentance is the sole key to receiving the mercy of God. What, then, of reform?

Clearly, the willingness to reform is the mark of a genuine repentance, just as the strength to do so is one of the first fruits of mercy. Please hold this thought while reading Phil Lawler's analysis of the only way to restore public confidence in Catholic bishops.
