eNewsletter Subject: Pope Francis: Questions about Communion

The response is somewhat confusing, and perhaps subject to different interpretations, but when Pope Francis answered a question from a Lutheran woman who wished to receive Communion with her Catholic husband, he once again raised more questions than he answered.

It will be interesting to see if any clarifications are issued, but here is my own take on what Pope Francis said and did: The Pope's advice to a Lutheran woman with a Catholic husband on receiving the Eucharist.

Also worthy of note is Phil Lawler's related commentary from late last Friday: Selective compassion: the dangerous step the Pope might take.

Of course, we must remember that the pope was speaking extemporaneously to one woman, neither teaching the whole Church, nor officially implementing a new discipline. All broader interpretations (including my own) are therefore inescapably speculative....
