It seems we are constantly faced with bad alternatives.

For example, over the weekend, Phil Lawler attempted to make sense of the Hobbesian choice which afflicted so much coverage of the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attack. Do we really have to choose between blasphemy and terrorism? See Murder, blasphemy, and the limits of intolerance.

Phil also reflects on the false choices the media so often presents us concerning Catholicism: News flash: the Pope doesn't tell God what to do.

Today I've reflected on the Pope's recent comments on economics, social life and culture. I suspect Francis is trying to dispel our belief that we must choose one of the common viewpoints on this subject. I suggest a different point of view: Our Paradoxical Times: An economy of waste, a culture of the absurd....
