gotta love a good lawyer

By ( articles ) | Mar 20, 2007

The boys in the priest’s bedroom had been “fully clothed,” and no sexual activity had occurred, Cardinal Mahony told parishioners in October 2005, making what he said was the “fullest possible disclosure” about the situation.

And that’s odd, because 6 months earlier, reporting to the Vatican on the same incident, the same Cardinal Mahony had said that the boys were “partially naked” and evidently aroused, in a videotape that provided “objective verification that criminal behavior did occur.”

J. Michael Hennigan, Mahony's lawyer, said he sees no contradiction between Mahony's public statements and the file contents because at the time the cardinal spoke out, the archdiocese was under court order not to reveal the contents of the personnel files.

And you have to admit, Cardinal Mahony didn't reveal the contents of the personnel files. No, sir. What he revealed to parishioners was something quite different.
