Students at a Jesuit college in Philadelphia ridiculed Catholic sexual teaching in a manner that drew objections.

A student newspaper at a Catholic university drew a rebuke from school officials for its April Fool's edition, which called Philadelphia's cardinal gay and included a mock ad in which the college president, a priest, endorsed a condom.

Student journalists at Saint Joseph's University apologized Wednesday for the satirical material in The Squawk, an annual parody traditionally written by seniors at the student newspaper, The Hawk.

Well, objections from the Catholics.

Four students wrote a letter to The Hawk on Wednesday calling the parody a "disgrace." But a Jesuit professor wrote in to praise The Squawk.

"I laughed my head off at it," wrote Tom Brennan, who teaches English. "Of course, I imagine that some did not..."

Fr. Brennan, be it noted, is on record as deploring unnecessary pain and difficulty.

Richard Cross holds a doctorate in psychology, who has taught at the university level, including at Franciscan University. He is currently an educational researcher and consultant in the field of psychology and related disciplines.

Maureen Dowd is so completely exhausted. She gave up her faith and her mind a long time ago...I lived in Saudi Arabia and she will enjoy the mental and physical prison that it is. Good riddance.

Has anyone suggested going after the Times for promoting hate speech? If all the recent attacks on the Pope and the Church don't qualify, since they're full of false claims and insults, I don't know what does.

Given the existence of articles like this, it is silly to point out that the Church feels defensive. It should be obvious. Imagine replacing her 'criticisms' of Catholics with 'criticisms' of Jews. You would never see such an article. Tolerance also dictates that we would never see such an article about Muslims and violence. But, give the NYT a club and a chance, and the Catholic bashing is in session.

I guess Dowd sees herself as the bile duct for NY Times anti-Catholic bile. The anti-Catholic Know Nothings had nothing on this crowd. Of course Times readership and circulation continue to decline as the dinosaur media like the Gaderine swine rush off the cliff possessed. Columnists like Dowd are one of the reasons. I imagine Dowd wants to lead the charge to oblivion angry and full of discontent. We should pray for her conversion.
