Australian women, living in fear

By Diogenes ( articles ) | Jan 27, 2010

What menace cause the most tremors in the hearts of Australian women? What do they fear more than anything else?

Virginity.

We have this on the authority of the country’s deputy prime minister, Julia Gillard.

Let me explain.

In a candid discussion of his own misspent youth as a child of the 60s, Liberal Party leader Tony Abbott was asked what he would say to his daughters about pre-marital sex. He replied: “They shouldn’t give themselves away lightly.”

The horror! The horror! On the Australian political scene the Liberal Party is actually the conservative bloc, and Tony Abbott, who is known to be a serious Catholic, is already the main target of vituperative left-wingers and feminists. Now, in this quotation, they saw proof positive that Abbott’s attitudes are indistinguishable from those of the Ayatollah Khomeini. Imagine: a father who would tell his daughters not to hop into bed with the first available partner?!

"These comments will confirm the worst fears of Australian women about Tony Abbott," said Gillard.

The worst fears. Not nuclear war, not deadly disease, not economic disaster, but the counsels of chastity.
