DIVINE NOTION

An internal divine activity that characterizes the persons in the Trinity and distinguishes them, as contrasted with the essential acts that are common to the three persons. Factually the divine notions coincide with the properties. They are ungeneratedness and generation as distinctive of the Father, passive generation as the mark of identity of the Son, and passive spiration as characteristic of the Holy Spirit.
