Solidarity priest Father Popieluszko beatified

Father Jerzy Popieluszko (1947-84), whose vocal opposition to Communism and support for the Solidarity labor movement led to his brutal martyrdom, was beatified on June 6 in Warsaw. 140,000 people, including his 90-year-old mother, attended the Mass.
